in short

long before the "greek dream" of the '50s and the '60s privatised the household processes, blocks of flats in athens were built reserving a place for a shared "plystario" (laundry room) on their roof tops.
today most of these spaces are empty, wrecked and forgotten, though situated in the most privilleged of spots.
after all, in a huge city-structure, if one would want to be closer to nature, one should move further from the ground and closer to the sky.

an external staircase (aside to the main stairs of the building) was used to link "plystario" to all the various apartments of the building.

some years ago, i discovered one of these staircases somewhere in exarhia, athens and since then i have an "open business" with it.
